What’s been happening this week? Mostly rain, drizzle, and more rain…we’re looking forward to seeing some sunshine soon. The beds are all pretty sodden and we haven’t been doing too much outside, but the mulching and compost mission continues whenever possible. We’ve been offered some more massive tarpaulins (for free-yay) which is fab, we can cover up more of the beds and stop more of those pesky weeds from growing. We’ve got to clean the polytunnels too.
Next week’s boxes are the last of 2020. The regular boxes we’ve planned are pretty Christmassy, you may be able to keep some for Christmas Day, but the small boxes less so.
If you know you want to pre-order any veg for w/c 21st December to pick up from the shop then let us know asap as it will help us to get a feel for quantities we need to order next Tuesday. We will be prioritising box customers for pre-orders.
Boxes this week: We’ve bought in pretty much everything for the boxes this week and next – we’re holding onto the veg we’re growing as noone quite knows what’s going to happen in January with Brexit shenanigans. Better safe than sorry! (or better drowned than duffers…if you have read Swallows and Amazons). We’re not that impressed with the quality of the courgettes this week. Tundra cabbage and Crown prince squash in the regular boxes. Kestral spuds. Some of you may have some Prion parsnips – if you spot a bit of canker just cut it out, the rest is fine to eat.
Organic unwaxed lemons – we have some of these available most weeks now if you’d like any.
Organic clementines – if you’d like to add a kg to your box next week we can sort that for you (+£3).
As always, if you’re stuck as to what to do with anything, or really struggling to like something that’s in your box, please let me know and we’ll try to help.
EYG Extras – for veg box customers only (not shop)…
We have limited amounts of organic wholefoods (flour, strong flour, lentils, pasta, oats, pulses, and more) which we can add to your box. If you get a veg box from us and want anything let me know and I can tell you the price.
The Vale Grocer shop: A reminder we’re open Fridays 9.30am-1pm @ 11 Mount Pleasant,Denbigh, LL15 3LS. Please bring your own bag and remember it’s cash only. Sorry, no list this week of what we have in, but if there’s something you particularly want and want to check if we have any just send me an email and I can let you know. Christmas week we’ll be open Tuesday 22nd (2-6pm) and Wed 23rd (9.30am-1.30pm).
Bodfari apple juice – Cae Main orchard in Bodfari has given us a few bottles of their Christmas Special (a one-off blend), and we have a few bottles left of the Scotch Bridget which was popular last week. Both are made from apples grown in a pesticide and herbicide-free orchard, nothing else added. £3.45/750ml bottle (not a litre as I said last week by mistake). We can add to your box next week or you can pick up from the shop.
And, finally, if you want some time out from the festive season, check out this Sounds of the Forest website – I could definitely while away a bit of time listening to these sounds!
