Snow fun

A slightly easier delivery round for Chris this week without the floods and snow! Snowdrops have just popped up in the garden and the sun is out…all is well 🙂

We’re really pleased to be using onions for the next few weeks from Bryn Cochyn organic farm (near Henllan). We’re really keen to source local veg as much as we can and this is something we’re going to try to do more of in the future.

What’s happening in the field?
We’ve mostly been trying to survive the snow! Chris has gone through the seed stash and I think our tiny cottage is about to become full of germinating seeds.

Eat Your Greens boxes
This week the potatoes are Red Cara. In the regular boxes, the martian-like veg is kohlrabi and there’s also bulb fennel. We’ve also got some snow pea sprouts (sorry, there are 4 of you who got regular sprouts instead) – they’re from the UK (Shropshire) so we wanted to give them a go.
Unfortunately we had to bin about 1/3 of the kale we bought in for the boxes this week as it was mouldy, so some regular boxes have Prion chard instead – which looks amazing.
In the small boxes the squash is Crown Prince – the squash are big so we had to portion them up!
Final call for Seville oranges – we’ve got more coming in next week but that may be it for this year.

The Vale Grocer shop
We’ve got potatoes, carrots, onions (from Bryn Cochyn). Also, cauliflower, unhearted red cabbage, bulb fennel, kohlrabi, chestnut mushrooms, swede, oranges (Sicilian, very tasty!), parsnips, a few leftover leeks from Prion (ideal for soups). Cae Main apple juice (from Bodfari). We will have some Seville oranges in next week, this may be the last lot we order so best to pre-order if you want some.
The Vale Grocer shop is open Friday mornings 9.30-1.30, and is cash only. The address is 11, Mount Pleasant, Denbigh, LL16 3LS.

We serve across the doorway so there’s no need to come inside – but you will have to queue outside if we’re serving someone else. We’re getting great support, and the more regular customers we get the more stock we can offer so please spread the word.
